Till it hurts (Steve X Reader) - Final partTill it hurts (Steve X Reader) - Final part by savrom
When Tony had removed the tracking implant from your arm you couldn't help but feel relieved. It didn't hurt as much as you thought (realizing you had suffered more pain at the hands of doctor List than Tony could ever inflict on you), but it was painful nonetheless. It was worth it though, you told yourself. You would probably never truly be free from HYDRA, but right now you felt more like yourself than you had done in all those weeks in the HYDRA base, training to be List’s special weapon. You only realized now that the agents there had never treated you like one of their own. Not like the Avengers did.
'You should tell him,' Tony said after he had stored away the tracking implant, probably to show to Fury (you knew both men longer than today and especially Nick would - should - have expected something was wrong).
You didn't mind. You had planned on telling the old director everything in the morning. But Tony wasn't referring to Nick right now. He was talking about Steve...

Against all odds, Tony had an incredibly productive week. He'd worked harder than he'd worked in months and felt pretty damn good about it. If he had known that it would feel so damn good he would have gotten back to work ages ago. It didn't matter how long he'd waited. What mattered now was that he felt accomplished for the first time in forever.
No matter how much he'd built in his basement, how much he'd developed since he'd returned from Manhattan he'd never felt it was good enough. It was partially why he couldn't sleep. Well, one of the tens of thousands of reasons his brain avoided rest. Why should he sleep when there was still so much to do? So much to prepare for? He could sleep fitfully when it was a job well done. Wh

“. . . So once the giant brought Mjölnir to us, Thor ripped off his dress and destroyed the entire hall,” Loki finished, a mirthful gleam in his emerald eyes.
I burst out laughing at his great tale. “Are you serious?” I said, after needing a moment to calm down. “You were able to convince the giants that Thrym was marrying Freya, and not Thor?”
“Yes,” Loki said with a smirk. “Fortunately for us, the giants were rather dull creatures, so it wasn’t all that difficult to trick them.”
“I still can’t believe Thor agreed to wearing a dress!”
Loki grinned. “‘Twas a wondrous spectacle, I assure you. My brother made quite the fair maiden, with some help from my magic, of course.” He winked at me, and we shared another laugh. The room then filled with a comfortable silenc

Norway, 2015 - Inside a secret, old S.H.I.E.L.D. base
Footsteps echoed through the building while you were rocking yourself back and forward - eyes closed - feeling the cold nesting itself into your bones. A feeling you knew all too well. A sighed hum welled from your throat and a smile curled your lips.
‘I've got no strings to hold me down. To make me fret or make me frown,' you sang, feeling a soft laugh escape your lips.
'Shut it, witch!' an angry voice told you.
Your eyes shot open as the guard hit the side of your cell with his gun, sending a clinging echo through the room you had spent several years in. You pushed yourself from the ground, slowly dancing on a melody only you seemed to hear.
'I had strings, but now I'm free. There are no strings on me...’
'I said shut it! Don't make me come in there.'
The guard appeared in front of the glass wall seperating you and bit down his teeth hard, showing you the gun he was holding.
